Mopar Challenger delayed until 3rd round of 2009 Formula Drift series

Some of you may remember a story we did late last year about the upcoming 2009 Mopar Dodge Challenger drift car. Despite its early appearance almost six months ago, it appears the car won’t be ready for the start of this year’s Formula Drift series and will only enter the competition in the third round.

The car’s future driver Samuel Hubinette told Edmunds that the delay had occurred because testing hadn’t been completed yet. Chrysler’s ongoing financial struggles may also have delayed the car slightly, although Hubinette claims that he was “proud to be back with Mopar” and recognized that despite the delay Chrysler had stuck with the drift team even “in the middle of crisis”.

The car’s late entry means that it will miss two rounds in the seven-round Formula Drift series, but will still be able to compete in the final five rounds.
